Frequently asked questions

General

How are tutors verified?

Every tutor submits identity documents, qualification certificates and references. Depending on what and whom they teach, we also check police clearance and professional registrations such as SACE or SAICA. Our verification team reviews each document before a tutor can be booked.

How does AI matching work?

You answer a short needs assessment. A learner profile is drafted — you can edit anything — and our matching engine ranks verified tutors on subject and level fit, availability, distance, delivery mode, budget, language, experience and reliability. Each recommendation comes with a plain-language reason. You always make the final choice.

Do you offer online and in-person lessons?

Yes. Choose online, in person or either. In-person search shows approximate tutor areas and distances only — never home addresses.

Payments

How do I pay?

By EFT into the Blueblack Learning Hub bank account shown on your quote, using the unique payment reference. Upload your proof of payment in your account or email it to finance@blueblack.co.za.

When is my payment confirmed?

Our finance team checks the deposit against our bank statement, usually within one business day. Uploading proof does not by itself confirm payment. Your tutor is appointed once the payment is verified.

What if a lesson does not happen?

Every session has a digital logbook that you confirm or dispute. Disputed sessions are frozen until our team resolves the case, and unused prepaid time can be refunded.

Parents

What can the tutor see about my child?

Only a first name, grade and the learning needs you share. Dates of birth, contact details and addresses stay private, and messages stay on the platform.

Can I manage more than one child?

Yes. Add each child to your parent account; each has their own profile, requests, tutors and session history.

Students

Can you help with assignments?

Tutors help you understand the work, plan and improve your writing and problem-solving. They will not complete assessed work for you — that would be academic misconduct.

Tutors

When do I get paid?

Once both you and the client confirm a session and evaluations are in, the earning enters our payout workflow with a 7-day target from completion.

Do I need SACE registration?

Only where it applies to your offering. Requirements are configured per subject, category, learner age group and service — for example, driving instructors need instructor certificates and board-exam tutors need the relevant professional registration.

Will my address be public?

No. Clients only see your suburb and an approximate, privacy-offset location and distance.

Facilitators, assessors & moderators

Who can list on Blueblack as a skills development practitioner?

Facilitators, assessors, moderators, subject matter experts (SMEs), skills development facilitators (SDFs), workplace mentors, learning material developers and verifiers. You add your SETA, QCTO or professional-body registrations and the scope you are registered for; our team checks them before your profile is listed.

What does "scope" mean?

The qualifications, part-qualifications, unit standards, skills programmes or occupational qualifications you are registered to facilitate, assess or moderate — with the SAQA ID and NQF level. Businesses search by SAQA ID, NQF level and quality body, so a complete scope helps them find you.

What happens when my registration expires?

We remind you 60 days before the expiry date. On the expiry date the registration is marked expired and hidden from your public profile until you upload the renewed registration letter.

Does Blueblack charge practitioners a fee?

Listing is free. When you accept a request you set your fee. The business pays it to Blueblack with our service fee added on top, and we pay you the full fee by EFT a few days after the work is completed.

Businesses & training providers

How do I find a registered assessor or moderator?

Use Find a practitioner and filter by role, SETA or QCTO, SAQA ID, NQF level and province. Every registration shown has been checked against the practitioner's registration letter by our team.

When do I see the practitioner's contact details?

Once your payment is verified. The practitioner accepts with a fee, you confirm and pay the invoice by EFT, and our finance team checks the bank statement. Until then you talk through Blueblack, and contact details in messages are removed automatically.

Can I review a practitioner after the work is done?

Yes. When the engagement is completed you can rate it from 1 to 5 and leave a short review. Ratings appear on the practitioner's public profile.

How does paying for a practitioner work?

You pay one invoice to Blueblack: the practitioner's fee plus our service fee (and VAT on the service fee if we are VAT registered). We hold the money and pay the practitioner a few days after the work is completed. If something is wrong, report it before then and we hold the payment while we look into it. If an engagement is cancelled before completion, you are refunded in full.
